Cat: is it Najis?
Question: Is cat Najis?
My children have a cat, and I was wondering if the cat is Najis. I am concerned that its presence might interfere with my religious practice, for example, cat hair fall everywhere in the house, and while I am praying the cat passes-by, and some people say it is Haraam. Can you please verify this?
Answer
The cat is not Najis but its urine and faeces are Najis and must be cleaned with running water and it is not sufficient to wipe it off. The passing by of the cat across when you are praying does not invalidates your prayers. But the presence of the hair of the cat on your cloths would invalidate the prayers. Therefore you must allow particular cloths especially for prayers and you prayer mat must be free from cat hair. You should ensure that your cloths and mat are free from cat hair before the start of the prayer, but must also avoid being too doubtful (Waswasah) about the state of your cloth during your prayers.

Ghusl
Question:
I have a query regarding Ghusl al-Janaba, I was wondering if u can do
Ghusl simply by doing your Niyyah, then dipping your head into the bath tub
then the right side of your body and then the left.
Answer
The process of Ghusl may be categorised into two types:
1. One is IRTIMASI, which is to submerge the entire body under the water,
2. And the other is to do the Ghusl sequentially, starting by the head & neck, then the entire right side of the body, and then the entire left side of the body.
However one can do the IRTIMASI Ghusl part-by-part as you have mentioned in your email. NOTE: one must ensure there is no 'obstacle' that would prevent the water from reaching the body, by wiping the hand on that part of the body before immersing in the water.
