Why do we believe in God

Question: Why do we believe in God and how you prove his existence?

Answer

The reason we believe there is a God is because we believe there is someone who created everything that is in existence; the universe, the galaxies, the stars and planets, the human beings, the animals, the plants, etc.

We do not believe that everything and all of these highly complex systems such as the human body and mind, the galaxies each with billions of stars and the all the laws of astrophysics that govern them came into existence out of the blue.  Unless of course we believe that the university building with all its structure and electrical wiring, water and gas pipes popped out of the ground by itself, or all those computers in the university came into existence from thin air and there was no hardware/software designer involved.

When you see a PC in the university you believe that it had a maker even though you have not seen the maker nor you have seen the PC being made.

It requires a bit of reflection and pondering.

Someone asked Imam Ja'far al-Saadiq (AS) "What is the proof for the Creator?"  The Imam (AS) replied, "The existence of all the creatures (created) is evident that their maker created them.  Don't you see when you look at a building, you know that it has a builder even if you have not seen the builder?"

An atheist called al-Deysani said to Imam Ja'far al-Saadiq (AS) "Give me an evidence for God!"  The Imam (AS) said to him to sit down for a minute.  A young boy passed by who had an egg in his hand . . . . Imam Ja'far al-Saadiq (AS) asked the boy for the egg, and the boy gave the imam the egg.  Imam al-Saadiq said to al-Deysani "This is a complete system which has a hard shell on the outside and soft shell on the inside.  Inside that there is silver-like fluid and a gold-like fluid . . . . it is not known whether it is created to produce a male or a female; it hatches to produce such colours as those of peacock feathers . . . do you think it has a maker?"

Al-Deysani bowed his head pondering, then afterwards he raised his head and said I testify there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is his slave and messenger, and you are an imam and an evidence - Hujjah - from all Allah to His creatures.
